Ope George

Ope is the Chief Finance Officer of Airtel Limited. In this capacity, he acts as the Financial Controller/Treasury Manager and Head of Administration of the company. Ope is a graduate of the University of Leicester where he obtained a B.Sc in Economics. He was awarded a Masters in International Business by the Manchester School of Management in 1997. Ope is currently undertaking the Associate of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) examinations.

From 1997 to 1999, Ope George was employed by Citibank London as a member of the Global Markets team with specific responsibilities for Central/ Eastern, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA). As an Associate, he participated in global transactions totaling in excess of $600 million and specialized in loan syndication to the Middle Eastern and African Multinationals.

In 1999, he moved to KPMG Corporate Finance, London as a Senior Manager. He was a key member of the team and was charged with debt structuring and financing. The team advised Multinationals, Governments and the Public Sector (in health and utilities industries) on the structuring and raising of finance for their operations.

Ope was charged with knowledge management for the financing group within KPMG, a task he performed commendably. He took up employment with Macaw limited in 2001, because of his belief and desire to participate in the development of his home country. At Macaw, he was the Head of Finance and Administration. He was responsible for the overall financial management of the company, developing and initiating operational procedures, formulating corporate strategies, monitoring capital expenditure as well as managing the administrative welfare of the staff.
