Femi Akande

Femi is the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Limited, charged with the coordination, controlling and directing of all affairs of the company. A graduate of the University of Lagos, he was awarded a B. Sc in Business Administration in 1995.

He moved to Shield Petroleum, representatives of Engen Petroleum Limited of South Africa in 1997. At Shield Petroleum, he was charged with the management of the Marketing and Business Development desk of the company, with the mandate of creating a market for Engen brand of Lubricants.

He also coordinated the activities of Engen in its bid to acquire 60% of the Federal Government of Nigeria's shares in National Oil & Marketing Company Plc under the ongoing privatisation program of the National Council of Privatisation (NCP).

He moved to Power Energy, a subsidiary company of Shield Petroleum & representatives of Petronas Carigali, Malaysia in 2002. He successfully coordinated the participation of Power Energy on behalf of Petronas in the auctioning of Deep Offsore Blocks as organized by the Federal Government. Petronas was awarded three blocks.

He developed a keen and personal interest in the Nigerian Telecommunications market, attending telecommunications conferences and seminars both locally and internationally. In the course of his networking activities, he was introduced to and developed a relationship with Sagem SA, a French telecommunications company. Upon the licensing of GSM operators in Nigeria and recognising the opportunities for mobile phone sales and servicing, he spearheaded the entry of Sagem SA into the Nigerian Telecommunications market, engineering the relationship of the French company with Macaw, an associate company of Shield Petroleum.

At Macaw, he served as Head of Marketing and business Development where he developed the organisationís entire mobile phone business.
